Join our mission to save this amazing breed

Löwchens have a long history as a companion dog, particularly favored by aristocracy.

While it is nearly impossible to identify the earliest genetics of the Löwchens. It appears the the breed originated as a companion breed in pre-Renaissance Europe where ladies of the court groomed them in the likeness of little lions. In this time of great symbolism, the groomed Löwchens represented the courage of lions. Legend has it that knights who were killed in battle were buried with the statue of a lion at their feet, but if they died of natural causes the statue of a lion dog was substituted.
